Government Responds to CMS report on Grassroots Music Venues

14 Nov 2024

Music Venue Properties welcome the Government's response today to the CMS report on Grassroots Music Venues.

The CMS report was originally published in May 2024 after input from venue operators, Music Venue Trust and representatives from across the sector highlighted the importance of Grassroots Music Venues, the threats they face and recommended a number of measures including a grassroots contribution from stadium tickets. Today the Government has responded to the report and supporting some of the key recommendations.

"We are pleased to see the Government’s recognition of the role that Grassroots Music Venues play to local communities. The democratic power of community ownership is a model that we strongly believe in and in particular we are pleased to see that the Government intends to introduce a new community right to buy through the English devolution Bill. We look forward to finding out more about this in due course.

We also agree with the Government that the music industry should work together towards the introduction of a levy on stadium tickets and reinvest this back into supporting the grassroots music sector. We look forward to the industry working to realise this goal as soon as possible for the collective interest of our local communities, venues and grassroots sector."

Clara Cullen - MVP Director
